These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of DeckOfMentors.com and any related services offered by Deck of Mentors (collectively the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into these Terms. The Service is currently intended for users in the United States.
2. What Deck of Mentors Provides
Deck of Mentors is an independent educational and organizational platform designed to help people discover, collect and reflect on mentors, principles and publicly available ideas. Features may include an early-access list, mentor profiles, saved boards, personal notes, recommendations and AI-assisted tools.
The Service may change as it develops. We may add, modify, suspend or discontinue features at any time.
3. No Professional Advice
The Service provides general educational and informational content. It does not provide legal, medical, mental-health, financial, investment, tax or other licensed professional advice. Content should not replace advice from a qualified professional who understands your circumstances.
You are responsible for evaluating information and deciding whether and how to act on it. No mentor profile, recommendation or AI-generated response guarantees a particular outcome.
4. Independent Platform
Deck of Mentors is independent. Unless expressly stated, featured people and their estates, employers, publishers, companies or representatives do not sponsor, endorse, approve or participate in Deck of Mentors.
Mentor profiles may summarize publicly available facts, teachings and works for commentary, education and discovery. References to a person do not imply affiliation or endorsement.
5. Accounts and Security
If accounts become available, you agree to provide accurate information and protect your login credentials. You are responsible for activity under your account. Notify us promptly at support@deckofmentors.com if you suspect unauthorized use.
We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these Terms, threatens the Service or creates legal or security risk.
6. Your Content
You may be able to submit mentor suggestions, notes, goals, feedback or other content (“User Content”). You retain ownership of your User Content.
You grant Deck of Mentors a limited, nonexclusive license to host, store, process and display User Content only as needed to operate and improve the Service. Private notes will not be intentionally published without your direction. We may analyze suggestions and feedback in aggregated or de-identified form to decide which mentors and features to develop.
You must not submit content that is unlawful, infringing, threatening, deceptive, abusive, malicious or invasive of another person’s privacy. Do not upload confidential information you lack permission to share.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Break any applicable law or violate another person’s rights
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or another user’s information
- Introduce malware or interfere with the Service’s operation
- Scrape, copy or extract substantial portions of the Service through automated means without written permission
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent an affiliation
- Use the Service to train, develop or improve a competing dataset, model or commercial product without written permission
8. Intellectual Property
The Service’s original design, branding, arrangement, software and editorial content are owned by Deck of Mentors or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
Names, images, quotations, book titles, logos and other third-party materials remain the property of their respective owners. Their appearance on the Service does not transfer ownership to Deck of Mentors or to you.
You may use the Service for personal, noncommercial purposes. No other license is granted unless we provide written permission.
9. AI-Assisted Features
If AI-assisted features are offered, outputs may be incomplete, inaccurate or unsuitable for your situation. AI may generate similar outputs for different users. You must independently evaluate outputs before relying on them and should not submit sensitive or confidential information unless the feature expressly permits it.
AI-generated responses represent an automated synthesis and not the actual voice, opinion or advice of any featured mentor. Deck of Mentors does not claim that a mentor personally provided, reviewed or endorsed an AI response.
10. Third-Party Links and Affiliate Relationships
The Service may link to third-party websites, books, courses or products. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party content, availability, security or practices.
Some links may be affiliate links. If you make a purchase through an affiliate link, Deck of Mentors may receive a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate relationships do not guarantee that a product is appropriate for you.
11. Feedback
If you provide ideas or feedback about the Service, you allow us to use that feedback without restriction or compensation. This does not give us ownership of your private notes or other User Content.
12. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” Deck of Mentors disclaims warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, noninfringement and uninterrupted or error-free operation.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so some exclusions may not apply to you.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Deck of Mentors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages or for lost profits, data, opportunities or goodwill arising from the Service.
Deck of Mentors’ total liability for any claim relating to the free Service will not exceed $100. If paid services are later offered, the applicable paid-service terms may provide a different limit.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain liability limitations, so some limitations may not apply to you.
14. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Deck of Mentors from claims, losses and expenses arising from your unlawful use of the Service, your User Content or your violation of these Terms or another person’s rights.
15. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Alabama without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute that is not resolved informally will be brought in a state or federal court with jurisdiction in Madison County, Alabama unless applicable law requires another forum.
Before filing a claim, you agree to contact support@deckofmentors.com and make a good-faith effort to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms as the Service develops. Revised Terms will be posted with a new effective date. Your continued use after the revised Terms take effect means you accept them. If a change materially affects an account or paid service, we may provide additional notice.
17. Severability and Entire Agreement
If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect. These Terms and the Privacy Policy form the entire agreement between you and Deck of Mentors concerning the Service unless additional written terms apply.
